Why does it useful the little toe?

Since I have memory, i've heard different hypothesis talking about the little toe is just a little delay of the human evolution, and it's going to disappear by the time. Is it a myth or truth? Today I want to clear some questions about that little toe which we only remember when it's hit accidentally and hurts.

The little toe's origin.
Almost our body parts, are known by their function and utility, but their some body parts that are considered as leftovers.
About the little toe, its role is bound with the monkeys.

The monkeys used their claws to climb the trees up. The humans descending from the monkeys, have that "finger", but since very early evolutionary stages, it has not use.
Lose the little toe, it doesn't be going to have any effect in long time, but in principle, we must to regulate our balance, because we are used a particular way to put the feet on the floor.

"We can live without that finger", Says the orthopedic surgeon from the Harvard University, Anne Holly Johnson. "The humans could do the same activities, adapting fast enough.

The human foot is made by 26 bones, and each finger (with the exception of the fat finger, which has 2 big bones) are made by tree little bones.
The fingers are connected from the middle zone's foot, by the called metatarsal bones; similar as hand's knuckles. Other bones still combining oneself until come to the astragalus, which is connected with the ankle.

The most important bones for the balance, are the metatarsal bones. If some bone was not, our movements can will be affected.
Is we lost the finger, it's OK, but if the metatarsal bone was not, we'll have problems.

The humans have managed to find an useful use for this finger. The persons who have suffered the amputation of one or more hand fingers, have been beneficiated with some foot fingers. The fat finger can be the thumb, because it's hard and easy to control, but without the fat finger in the foot, it will have many balance problems.

If the finger was another, the little toe can be a better solution since at least delivers a bone structure which allows for a greater use of the hand, though his skills are quite limited.

As you see, if something in the body has not use, the science gets to find a purpose out. In the next time that you hit the little toe with the furniture again, perhaps you'll see it with more respect.
